About Me

I am the technology correspondent for the German business magazine brand eins and I also write for The Economist. My work connects the dots between technology, its impact on business, work and its overall consequences for society and policy-making.

My books and texts have been honored with several awards, including the Financial Times Business Book Award, the Herbert Quandt Media Award, the ADC Award and the Best of Corporate Publishing Award. I was also shortlisted for the International Book Award and the Kisch-Prize.

Over the past 15 years, I have written more than a dozen books, including the Spiegel bestseller The Flicks, the handbooks In Data We Trust and Smart Data and, together with Erik Spiekermann, a bestselling book on design thinking. In 2014 I published my first novel about the good life (and the bad life) in large corporations.

Reinventing Capitalism in the Age of Big Data, which I co-authored with Oxford professor Viktor Mayer-Schönberger, has been translated into 15 languages and has stimulated a worldwide debate on data monopolies.

My newest book, a short and comprehensive introduction to Artificial Intelligence, will hit the shelves in March.

Moderation / Keynotes

Over the past 20 years, I have hosted more than 200 events, conferences, public panels and workshops for government institutions, companies, business associations and academic organizations. Most of the debates have circled around the question: How is technology changing business, work, life and societies?

My keynote speeches build up on my books. I talk about:

  • Artificial Intelligence
  • Blockchain, Bitcoin and the Crypto Economy
  • Big Data vs. Smart Data
  • Internet of Things and Industry 4.0
  • The Future of Work
  • Digital Disruption vs. Digital Transformation
  • Storytelling

You can find some of my talks online, for example a TEDx talk about blockchain technology here.

I moderate and speak in English, French and German. For requests, feel free to contact me at
